Magic tricks are enjoyed by people from all over the world. It is something that seems to be a universal language that entertains both young and old.

Many people attempt to become amateur magicians as a way of entertaining family and friends. If someone wants to become a good magician, it would be helpful to know the different varieties of magic tricks before performing them.

The first type that most people are familiar with is stage magic. This is the most difficult type of magic trick and is often associated with famous magicians such as David Copperfield, Lance Burton, and David Blaine. These types of magic tricks require a great deal of skill to perform and usually involve grand schemes like making a large landmark disappear or walking through walls.

The next type is called platform magic and is done on a somewhat smaller scale. These type of magic tricks are quite a bit easier to perform than most stage magic tricks and involve tricks such as sawing a person in half or levitating.

And finally, the last type of magic trick is called close up magic. This type requires the least amount of skill and can be learned with a little effort. These type of magic tricks include magic card tricks, coin tricks, cigarette through quarter, pencil through bill etc.

There are many different tricks that can be learned by just about anyone willing to practice. The secret to remember is to never reveal how you do your magic tricks to your audience.

The quickest path to achieving your status as a master magician is to be able to perform magic tricks at a moments notice using a wide variety of borrowed objects. If you are handed a pencil, a coin, a handkerchief, or a dollar bill, you should be able to perform at least one magic trick with any of these objects. Another key thing to remember is that only a tiny fraction of the magic is what you do, and the rest is how you do it. If speaking candidly, many magicians would tell you that most of the tricks they perform are very easy, but to the audience, they are spectacular! It is all about how you present yourself to the audience: your timing, your sense of humor and your ability to distract are very important. So remember, with a little practice and showmanship, you can le 1000 arn to be the life of the party by performing simple magic tricks.

Trade Show Magician Entertainment Magician

What makes one trade show exhibit memorable and another so-so? What can exhibitors do to get attendees talking after the show? What can motivate visitors who may have had no previous intention of visiting your booth decide that they definitely have to stop by?

Entertainment! According to trade show research, live presentations are the third most important reason why people remember the exhibit. Numbers one and two? Booth size and product interest. If you’ve got a limited exhibiting budget, hiring entertainment may be a cost-effective way to attract attention to your company without springing for the larger, pricier display space.

What are your options?

Entertainment options at trade shows are almost endless. Any form of live presentation can work, including:

staged product demonstrations
theatrical skit
magician
game show
choreography
video
audio
robot
singers or musicians

The key is to have entertainment that acts as an integral part of your marketing message. To do this, you need to know a few things:

What type of entertainment will appeal to your target audience?

A robot that dispenses free samples might go over big at a tech show but fall flat at a pet care industry show. Conversely, those wired types might be more puzzled than pleased by a troop of trained terriers. Know your target audience.

How much product information do you want to convey via the entertainment?

Some entertainment formats are better than others for educating attendees about your products and services. Product demonstrations, especially those that draw participants from the audience, are a great way to get the crowd focused on what you’re selling. Other acts focus on simply getting the company name and logo out there, such as a magician who uses the company’s name as the ‘Magic Word’.

What is your corporate image?

Any entertainment you select should positively reflect your company’s image. This goes beyond a Western Wear company selecting a country singer to entertain the crowds — attendees will hold you to a higher standard than that. Research the acts you’re proposing to hire. Some acts may not be appropriate for mainstream companies — ask to see a video of an average performance and ask yourself how would your customer base view the images.

With those questions in mind, decide what kind of entertainment you’d like to have and who will perform for the crowds. If you’ve decided on live product demonstrations, you may be able to use your own staff members, but other than that, you’re generally better off hiring a pro.

How to Make the Most of Your Money

Hiring a professional entertainer is an expense. Ensure you get your money’s worth by doing the following:

Identify how the presentation helps achieve your goals — let the entertainer know clearly what you expect for them to do.

Create promotional activities centering around the entertainment. From pre-show direct mailings to on the floor interactions with attendees, make frequent mention of the event and have an incentive that will encourage attendees to visit your booth.

If your staff is not on stage, find ways to involve them in the presentation. Use them to gather the crowd or to capture and monitor pertinent information during the presentation. Let them know it’s okay to be enthusiastic about the performance — excitement is contagious, and you want an excited crowd.

What to Avoid

Good entertainment is expensive, bad entertainment can cost more than you will ever imagine. Protect your company’s image and reputation by avoiding the following:

Crass, rude, or offensive acts. There are comedians who do very well with off color or hurtful humor, but the risk of alienating large segments of your consumer base by sponsoring one of these acts is too great.

Under-dressed entertainers. Scantily clad women and barely dressed men wiggling provocatively have no place at most shows. In fact, the aggressive use of “Booth Babes” has been so off-putting that some shows are banning them all together. Unless you’re exhibiting an adult-themed show — ie, one that caters to the sex industry or some travel shows — have your entertainment keep their clothes on.

Acts that are clearly amateur. Trade show audiences are harsh. They won’t be tolerant of second rate acts. Hire the best you can afford for better results.

Most times a corporate magician is either performing close-up or stage magic. Close-up magic, also called strolling magic, is presented while the

The most important thing is to make sure you book a professional. An amateur or part-time magician may be able to perform amazing magic but there is a lot more to it than that. Will they turn up on time? Will they be smartly presented? Will they work hard to make sure they see every guest? Will they have the experience to cope with any last minute changes?

Remember that if you are hosting or organising an event, the magician you choose will reflect on you. In the same way, a professional magician who’s livelihood depends on performing regularly will look after all the small details because it reflects on them and their prospects of getting more work.

How do you know someone is a professional? After all, anyone can say they are but what can you do to check that it’s true?

How to Spot a Professional Magician

Check that the magician has a good website and/ or printed promotional materials. These days, magicians often rely on a website to provide information to prospective clients because it is so easy to keep a website up to date. Many also have videos or DVDs and printed materials including photographs. Of course, this doesn’t make them a great magician but it does indicate their professionalism. It can also give you an idea of what a performer is like if you haven’t met them.

Check that the magician is a member of magic societies such as the Magic Circle and the International Brotherhood of Magicians. These societies require magicians to be serious and accomplished performers before they are allowed membership. Another good sign is if they are a member of an organisation like Equity, the UK performers union or similar professional body.

Check the magician’s list of clients and engagements, and testimonial/ recommendation letters. A professional magician should be able to provide details of past clients and engagements – if they can’t something is wrong. The types of events they have been involved with will indicate if they are the right magician for your event. The letters and quotes can be helpful, although it is unlikely that any bad quotes will find their way into someone’s promotional materials! However, the number and quality of the quotes should give you an idea of how well received a performer is. Don’t be afraid to ask for copies of the original letters or emails.

Check that the magician has public liability insurance. This is very important! The magician may be closely interacting with your guests, perhaps borrowing objects from them and a professional will be covered for any accidents that may happen.

Is a Particular Professional Magician Right for You?

So, you’ve found a professional magician. How do you know they are right for you and your event? Obviously, seeing them perform is the best way. Often a magician will work regularly at a restaurant or club, or even have a regular stage show and this is a great opportunity to see them in action. However, some magicians only perform at corporate and private functions and you may not be able to see them in public.

Promotional materials and information about past clients and engagement should give you a pretty good idea what they are like, but a quick phone call is the best way. Have a chat with them, ask them what their performance style is like and what types of magical effects they perform. If you like what you hear and can get on with them over the phone, it’s a good sign.

Price and Negotiating a Fee

Often the main factor when deciding which magician to choose is price. Fees for professional magicians vary a lot because they depend on many factors such as the date and time of the event, how well known the magician is, what type of magic you want them to perform, how long you want them for, etc. But, as with most other services and products, you get what you pay for. Good magical entertainment is not something that you can get cheaply. If you are shopping around and enquiring with many magicians, going with the cheapest may not be the best option!

When negotiating the fee it can be a good idea to be up front and state what the available budget is. This could save both you and the magician a lot of time. If one magician is too expensive or is not available, they may be able to suggest another magician or entertainer for your event. Their opinion is worthwhile, since they should be well aware how good other magicians are and suggesting someone unprofessional would reflect badly on them.

Finally, remember to check whether the fee you negotiate is fully inclusive and that there are no hidden extras such as VAT or traveling expenses.

One could enjoy watching magicians perform their amazing tricks. Whether they are in a circus, in a school program, a friend’s birthday celebration, or in a favorite television show, magicians are among today’s top entertainers.

Here are a few of the top magicians in their times:

The history of using magic as a form of entertainment may have begun with magician Chevalier Joseph Pinetti. More than three centuries ago, Chevalier Joseph Pinetti, wowed his audiences worldwide with his bag of magic tricks. And that was in 1782!

Among his tricks was the ability to produce an orange tree blossoming on stage that bore fruit. Pinetti’s wife even acted as an assistant, helping the magician to do his mentalist and escape tricks. Known as the ‘Professor of Natural Magic,’ he was known for his great magic tricks, tricks that belonged clearly to the modern era of magic.

Come the nineteenth century. The said century welcomed the use of technical-assisted magic, with some of the magicians developing various devices that would aid or help in their illusions. Using optical aids or devices, electromagnets, as well as various stage lighting forms, these magicians were able to amaze audiences from time to time with their very elaborate and dazzling tricks.

One known magician in the nineteenth century was the magician Hermann the Great. Alexander Herrmann was his real name, and this German magician did his tricks with all of the kinds of stage magic he had known, even from super close-up productions to fill-stage events. An American rival, Harry Kellar, took over Herrmann’s popularity for some time and became the most prominent magician for more than 10 years.

Other magicians in the nineteenth century included T. Nelson Downs and Howard Thurston. Downs is originally a vaudevillian by trade, but had become great and famous in his magic tricks that he became known as ‘King of Koins.’

Thurston, on the other hand, invested much of his money in building an extravaganza, which is a show on magic. It reigned over the American entertainment magic scene for over twenty-five years.

Probably one of the more known magicians in recent times was Harry Houdini. Known as one of the best American magicians, he was known for his great escape acts, including his own famous creation, the ‘Chinese Water Torture Cell.’

Another famous American magician is David Copperfield, who until recently performed numerous magic acts in shows and TV programs.

Magician Parties

Have fun with Magician Parties.

The word magic has always been an interesting an enthralling word for many children. They are in the age of fantasy, far from reality. If this fits your child, a magician party will be a fun and thrill.

Every boy is born with a touch of Houdini in his soul. By the time he’s twelve he’d rather pull a trick on a pal, than eat almost. Next best he likes to watch another perform tricks of magic. So when Gray and Bernie wanted to entertain their scout troop at a magician’s party, we buried our misgivings and gave the go-ahead signal.

The invitations they extended over the telephone were at least unique. “Houdini’s nephew will be at our house on Friday evening. Drop around. He’s going to show a few clever tricks. If you know a good stunt to show him brings it along.”

This was strictly a no-refusal party. Each guest accepted and arrived promptly at seven. The guests were met at the door by two young magicians one was attired in a Prince Albert coat and silk topper the other wore the traditional Hindu garb. A turkish towel wound around his head served as a turban and a gay bathrobe covered his regular clothes.

The first two boys to arrive were handcuffed together. Subsequent arrivals were also handcuffed in pairs. This was done by tying each end of a forty inch string to one boy’s wrists. Then another string of equal length is passed between the first boy’s string and his body. Then the ends of this string are tied to his partner’s wrists, linking the two boys together. The couples are to separate themselves without breaking or untying the strings.

This was an intriguing game on which the boys concentrated earnestly. It was not too long until one lad stumbled onto the solution. Yielding to loud demands he explained carefully that if one of a handcuffed pair would make a loop in his string and tuck it under the string around his partner’s wrist and pull it over his partner’s hand, the partners could be separated without breaking or untying the strings.

Of course, the strings remained tied to the wrists. The solution was so simple it was hard for some of the boys to accept it so they continued to experiment for some time.

Next on the game list was the magic stick. The young hosts explained that touching the magic stick would prevent one from walking straight across the room to pick up a book from the floor and place it on a chair standing in one corner of the room. “Oh yeah” was the skeptical response. The boys all squatted on the floor to watch the loudest skeptic make the first try.

Though it’s just only a tricks, but for a delightful heart of young boys it is not less than any reality. Each of the stunts of a magician creates a new challenging excitement in them.

Bad Magic Tricks Cautions

It is obvious that one can pull off a decent magic show with great practice and  knowledge about the magic tricks. But there are many keen points to be noted which plays the important role of giving the ‘feel’ of magic to the audience more than the trick itself.

Glancing through the simple magic tricks scattered all over the internet would have indicated that most of the tricks are too simple, leaving one to wonder how the onlookers did not see right through it. Well the answer is the careful chattering of the performer had kept the audience occupied and distracted them from noticing the small hidden actions of the ‘magicians’.

The level of this art to engross the audience varies with the magnitude of the magic trick performed. So this goes without saying that it demands more practice and professionalism if one wishes to handle bigger crowds or perform complicated magic tricks. But whatever may be the case, here are few general dos and don’t while performing the magic tricks to be considered.

Do’s while executing the Magic Tricks:

Watch as many magicians in action as possible prior to hosting your own little show. Just mere watching will not help but observe the ways in which the professional magicians pull off the show.

Think scientifically about how the magic trick had worked. This will be very helpful to self-learn more magic tricks. Remember there is always a scientific or logical explanation behind each magic tricks and they continue to be ‘magical’ till these reasons are not explored.
Dedicated preparation is undoubtedly the first requirement if one wishes to execute even the simpler magic tricks. Practicing in front of the mirror and visualizing the onstage performance with the audience watching will be more effective.

It is better if the interested individual is a passable speaker as they will have less trouble in keeping the audience engrossed. If otherwise, the skill can be mastered by watching the professionals at work. It is important to prepare the free-flowing and interesting speech also prior to the magical show.
Select the right place and the right moment to start the casual magic tricks. The atmosphere will be advantageous only if the tricks are done in an informal or friendly get together rather than the more serious times.
